Are You Adding Onto Your House?

Posted on

Do you live on enough land that you can add another room to the existing floor plan? Maybe your family has grown since you moved into your house and you find that you need additional bedroom space. Or, it might be that you want to add a home office or an entertainment room. No matter the reason you are adding onto your house, from selecting a rustic barn door for a separate entryway to choosing flooring for the new room, here are some ideas that might help you.

The Entry Door - Does part of the plan for the new addition include having a separate entryway? For example, if you have decided to have a home office, you might want clients to enter the room by a side door that leads to your new room. Whatever the reason that you want a separate entryway, you'll need to select a new door. Consider buying a custom barn door with a rustic design. Rustic barn doors are not only attractive but selecting one will add interest to both the outside of your house and your new room.

Select a custom barn door that will complement the material of the walls. For example, if your house is made of gray stucco, a dark gray rustic barn door would be a good choice. If your house is made of light brown or off-white bricks, a brown custom barn door will more than likely be the perfect choice. For a super rustic look, consider having wrought iron as part of the design of your barn door.

The Flooring - If you went with a rustic barn door for the entry into your new room, think of flooring that will work well with that look. For example, reclaimed rustic wood would be a good choice for the flooring. Choose a finish that will complement the door you selected. For example, if you went with dark wood, then light wood for the floors would add contrast. If you selected a light stain for the barn door, then a dark color would add interest to the room.

Another idea for a rustic look in the new addition to your house would be to select a concrete floor that either you or a professional painter could faux paint. Faux painting a concrete floor would mean that it could look like anything from old wooden planks to a brick floor.
